Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) is responsible for the decontamination, sterilization, and preparation of surgical instruments and equipment to ensure a sterile environment for surgical procedures. The role supports surgical services by maintaining strict adherence to sterilization standards and protocols, collaborating with surgical teams, and ensuring timely availability of instruments. This position requires attention to detail, knowledge of sterile processing techniques, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced acute hospital setting.

Responsibilities:

• Decontaminate, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies following established protocols.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage before and after sterilization.
• Assemble instrument sets and trays according to surgical case requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes and instrument tracking.
• Collaborate with surgical staff to ensure timely instrument availability for procedures.
• Adhere to infection control and safety standards to maintain a sterile environment.
• Manage inventory of sterile supplies and notify appropriate personnel of shortages or equipment issues.
• Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement activities related to sterile processing.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Certification in sterile processing such as CBSPD, CSPDT, IAHCSMM/HSPA, or NBSTSA.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in sterile processing or a related field.
• Knowledge of orthopedic, neurological, and robotic surgical instrumentation preferred.
• Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with orthopedic, neurological, and robotic surgical instruments.
• Familiarity with Epic charting system.
• Previous work experience in a Magnet or Level II Trauma hospital setting.

Special Considerations:

• No on-call requirement.
• Weekend coverage rotation is required.
• Clinician does not float outside scope to meet facility needs.
• Time off requests are approved individually and must be included in submittal.
• Must be located at least 50 miles from the facility (no local candidates accepted).

Scheduling:

• 13-week assignment with a guaranteed 72 hours every 2 weeks.
• Primary shift is 4x10 hour day shifts; 5x8 hour shifts may also be accepted.
• Block scheduling accommodations are possible.
• Traveler may be called off for one 8-hour shift per 2-week period.
